The real ship:

"Le Renard" was a 19th-century topsail cutter sailing ship. She was the last ship fitted out for racing by the privateer Robert Surcouf.

The ship was launched on May 15, 1813. In September of the same year, under the command of Captain Emmanuel Leroux-Desrochettes, she fought a victorious battle against the English schooner Alphea, which was far superior in both firepower and men. During this particularly violent confrontation, the captain of "Le Renard" himself lost an arm, which he died of shortly afterwards.

"Le Renard" is also a replica of this historic ship, built in Saint-Malo and launched in 1991. She is currently managed by Étoile Marine Croisières 2 of Saint-Malo.

The model:

Build your own 1:50 scale model of "Le Renard", a privateer cutter from the early 19th century. A must-have in model shipbuilding. Artesania Latina have the official license from the "Association Cotre Corsaire de Saint-Malo". Its assembly system, with a false keel and frames, is inspired by the construction of the real ship.

The hull structure is made of laser-cut birch plywood for high-precision assembly. The hull, once battened with birch wood, is completed by a rich array of fittings in wood, injected metal and brass photo-cutting. The sewn sails are ready for installation.

This reedition of "Le Renard" model ship kit contains high precision laser-cut board parts, hardwoods, brass, cast iron and sails ready to be placed. Thanks to this new version, no part will have to be created by the modeler as happened to the previous version. For the assembly you will be able to follow our complete full colour step-by-step instructions on DVD format for computer (Windows and Mac). The kit does not include any printed guide. All the explanations referring to hoisting and rigging are included on greater format for a simple and pleasant assembly.
