G22: Servonaut ESC specially designed for radio-controlled trucks.

Servonaut G22

The Servonaut G22 has been specially designed for radio-controlled model trucks and optimized for Servonaut GM32 and GM42 geared motors. Internal software is used to simulate a 4-speed automatic transmission.

Recommended for use with a Servonaut sound module (SM3 or SM7), the G22 offers a highly realistic driving and sound experience: the engine sound is enhanced by gearshift sounds during acceleration and deceleration.

If connected to two receiver channels, the G22 features cruise control functionality (just like the Servonaut M24 or E22 drives). If the control channel is omitted, the G22 has normal control behavior (direct forward/reverse) like a ESC S22 without cruise control. Simulated gearshift sounds are made fully automatically.

The G22 is an ESC for brush motors up to 20A. The G22 Servonaut ESC automatically detects 7.2 V (7.4 V lipo) and 12 V (11.1 V lipo) batteries after switch-on and adjusts the cut-off voltage accordingly (lipo saver function).
Caution: Use only 6- or 10-cell NiMH / NiCd batteries or 2s or 3s lipos!

For a more realistic driving experience, acceleration and braking actions are limited, simulating a heavy vehicle. Thanks to Servonaut EMF brakes, you never lose control, even when driving downhill. High-frequency PWM switching avoids additional engine noise (no whistling).
Two diagnostic LEDs help identify any problems.

The G22 has outputs for brake lights and reversing lights. The brake light operates realistically. The G22 is protected against overcurrent, overload, excessive temperature and low voltage. In these cases, the motor will slow down or stop. The 5v 3A BEC is powerful enough for a receiver and several standard analog servos.

Features:

  • Operating voltage: 6/10 cell NimH or Lipo 2s / 3s
  • Motor current: 30A / 30s - 20A 5mn.
  • Switching frequency: 16kHz
  • BEC receiver power supply: 5v 3A
  • Reversing and braking light: 2 x 700mA, protected
  • Protection: Imax, Tmax, Umin (protected against excessive consumption, overheating and low voltage)
  • Dimensions: 70x38x9mm
  • New for 2022: now incorporates a female BEC socket for parallel powering of a sound or lighting module

Specifications:

  • Designed for scale models 1:16 to 1:8
  • High switching frequency: 16 kHz
  • Very high resolution: 450 steps
  • Provides motor currents up to 20A
  • Low-voltage protectoin cut-off for Lipo 2s and 3s
  • Robust 3A BEC for receiver and servos
  • optimized for Servonaut U360, U390, U430, U450 gearmotors
  • Integrated EMF brakes, no loss of control on descent
  • regenerative braking: energy recovered during braking recharges the battery.
  • Protected outputs for brake and reversing lights
  • Realistic brake light on forward or reverse deceleration
  • Neutral calibration on power-up
  • Optimized for sound modules Servonaut and light modules ML4 and LA10
  • Designed for slow-driving models with low-speed motors
  • Provides a highly realistic driving experience

Operation - with cruise control:

The G22 uses two receiver channels: the engine control channel (blue socket) operates the engine speed (joystick forward) and the brakes (joystick reverse). With the switch channel (white socket), you can switch between forward and reverse.
With the engine control channel held in neutral, speed is kept almost constant (cruise control function).
Switching forwards or backwards is only possible when the model is stationary.

Operation - without cruise control :

The G22 uses only one lane, the white socket must remain unconnected.
The driving lane (blue socket) now operates the throttle in the most usual way, like a Servonaut S22. In neutral position, the brake is active. To stop the model slowly, move the stick slowly towards the center position. Do not allow the stick to return abruptly to neutral. A small movement away from the center position switches the reversing light on and off.

Operation - Gearbox simulation :

The G22 simulates an automatic transmission.
The vehicle's dynamic behavior depends on the active "gear".
With more throttle applied, the G22 will shift into a higher gear later. Deceleration during gear changes is also simulated, as is clutch engagement.
If the model decelerates slowly, the G22 will shift from one gear to another. With more brake, the G22 will jump out of gear and into the appropriate gear once the brake is released.

A few tips:
The G22 offers an extremely realistic driving experience and, with a sound module Servonaut, perfect sound.

But for best results, you also need to drive the model realistically. Don't over-brake or over-throttle, and move the lever slowly, especially when driving without cruise control.
