The Porsche 917 KH #23, Porsche’s first Le Mans winner

On 14 June 1970, Hans Herrmann and Richard Attwood gave Porsche its first ever overall victory at the Le Mans 24 Hours. They drove the red-and-white Porsche Salzburg 917 KH #23. “KH” stands for Kurzheck, or “short tail”: it is the short-tail version of the 917, more stable than the long-tail car. It is powered by a 4.5-litre flat-12. That win began one of the greatest stories in motorsport: Porsche is now the most successful manufacturer in Le Mans history.

An outstanding 1:8 scale model

At 55 cm long with 839 parts, 158 of them in painted metal, this IXO Collections Full Kit is an impressive replica of the 917. It is assembled without glue, using clips and screws, following an illustrated step-by-step guide. Once finished, the model comes to life with working lights and realistic engine and horn sounds. It is made under official Porsche licence and rated Expert level: a long-term project for motorsport enthusiasts.
