This winch replaces the previous white metal version with reference ACKR27203

1:48 scale steam windlass kit to assemble and paint, made using 3D resin printing.

Historical background

The windlass is part of the equipment of the tugboat Joffre, built in 1916 and designed for coastal towing services around Newcastle upon Tyne. An indispensable working tool, it was used to ensure the safety of anchoring and towing operations.

The revised kit reproduces this classic steam windlass in extremely realistic 1:48 scale.

Kit information

The kit has been completely revised and redesigned. White cast metal parts have been replaced by precision 3D resin-printed components. This makes assembly much simpler and quicker, as the tedious reworking required with white metal is no longer necessary.

The components have a much more realistic appearance, offering a finer, more detailed representation of all mechanical elements. The enclosed assembly instructions clearly explain how to assemble the gears, brake levers, chain guides and drums. Brass rods of various diameters serve as axles, allowing the gears to rotate freely if desired.
