Antarès radio-controlled sailboat kit to build
Krick 20370
Radio-controlled kit of a magnificent classic cutter with a prefabricated fiberglass hull and wooden superstructure, modeled after a 1920s racing yacht. This elegantly designed model also offers excellent sailing performance.
Kit description
The ANTARES is a cutter-rigged racing and cruising yacht in the typical style of the 1920s, featuring excellent sailing characteristics, even in strong winds. This model was developed by Manfred Kaiser-Pletscher of MKP Modellbau. The goal was to enable both novice and experienced model builders to construct a model of this class using modern manufacturing techniques. Its faithful reproduction of the original, even in the details, its laser-cut wooden deck, and its mahogany superstructures make the Antares an exceptional model for enthusiasts of classic sailboats.
This model is certainly not a mass-produced item; although a ready-to-use epoxy hull is included in the kit and all the wooden parts for the deck and superstructures are also provided as laser-cut pieces, making construction quick and easy. The deck is assembled as a fully self-supporting subassembly, entirely outside the hull, and then glued as a single unit inside the hull. All materials needed for construction are included. Only the rigging components needed to assemble the mast—such as brass pulleys, turnbuckles, stainless steel cable, and ropes—are included in the separately supplied rigging kit, which will not be needed until later. For calm conditions, an auxiliary motor can be integrated into the model; it is available as an additional accessory kit.
1:1 scale patterns are provided for the sails. You can purchase either fabric to sew them yourself or a ready-to-use set of sails as an additional option. Detailed assembly instructions, in which each step is illustrated with photos, along with a detailed description of the control system for the two headsails—faithful to the original—and a complete assembly diagram make it easy to build this model, even for beginners. The rigging can be set up with 2 or 3 sail winches. However, the winches can only be installed once the model is complete.
