History of the great boat
The Hansa-Jolle was introduced by Henry Rasmussen in 1947, the founder of the renowned Abeking &Rasmussen shipyards located in Lemwerder near Bremen. The boat was based on a design from the 1920s. At that time, Henry Rasmussen was building a small yole called VISKA for 2 friends from Copenhagen and these boats were used for relatively long solo trips to Scandinavia. The ship proved to have very good performance and after the war this encouraged the shipyard to restart in the shipbuilding of small boats because the regulations prohibited the construction of large boats. The freeboard and draught of the VISKA were increased and, more importantly, a closed cabin was added.
For a period of about twenty years Abeking & Rasmussen built large quantities of this boat called "Hansa-Jolle". The excellent behavior of this boat made it adopted in many places. In 1960, the boat was recognized as a national class by the DSV (German Sailing Association). The A&R shipyard has maintained its construction monopoly for the Hansa-Jolle until now.
Now they make free plans for other shipyards to build the boat.
In fact, the term Jolle (Yole) is incorrect because the Hansa-Jolle has a ballasted keel, a fin and a draft of 50cm, it must be classified as a dinghy. The keel ballast of 150kg and the width of 1.65m give the boat good stability. Although the Hansa-Jolle is unsinkable thanks to waterproof boxes filled with foam, it is not unsinkable.

The model:
The model is freely inspired by the real Hansa-Jolle sailboat, and is intended for sailing conditions in light winds. The kit includes a high-quality plastic hull, but for the rest it respects the principle of all-wood construction. This combination makes it easier for the modeller to obtain a watertight boat by nature. If you want to evolve the model in stronger winds, it will be necessary to add a removable lest on the fin.
