History of this type of ship :

This type of classic wooden sailboat was dedicated to tuna fishing from June to October. This fishing boat reached the Mauritanian coast for campaigns lasting up to two months, as the tuna were generally far from the coast. The "Marie-Jeanne" sailed from the French port of Concarneau between 1900 and 1950. Tuna fishing required strong, fast boats. Initially, boats built for other purposes were used for this task, often too heavy. At the end of the 19th century, new types of small fishing boats with large sails were developed. Progress and the move towards motorization contributed to the disappearance of these elegant fishing boats with their multicolored sails.
