HISTORY OF BELEM :

Launched in 1896, the Belem is the last French three-masted schooner, one of the oldest three-masted sailing ships in Europe and the second largest remaining in France. Built in Nantes, and used mainly in the Caribbean, she was in turn English, Italian and then French again.

She was transformed, repowered and renamed several times for various uses (luxury cruising yacht or school boat). She was finally discovered in a bad state in Venice at the end of 1970 by a nostalgic amateur.

Purchased with the support of a major French bank, which financed the Belem Foundation and began her restoration, the ship is now converted to coastal cruising: the Belem Foundation offers courses for beginners and discovery cruises for amateurs. She is also used by the French Navy to train its young seamen. She also appeared at major reunions of traditional sailing ships.

In 2024, she carried the Olympic flame from Athens to Marseille for the Olympic Games.

The Belem was classified as a Historic Monument on February 27, 1984.

The wooden model of the Belem, created by Artesanía Latina, has received official accreditation from the Belem Foundation, which bears the same name. The model ship kit for this marvel of a boat is made of wood, and also features numerous metal parts. In this sense, it features over 1,300 parts for model builders (of advanced level) to enjoy assembling this model of the French sailing ship.

The Belem sailboat kit contains parts of the highest quality: laser-cut planks in various thicknesses, rectangular and round birch wood strips, basswood veneer, steel and brass photo-etched parts, cast metal parts, decals for hull details such as depth marks and the ship's name itself, cotton cloth sails ready to be set, cotton thread for the rigging and a very important gift: the wooden display base.

Additionally, a DVD is included with step-by-step instructions, featuring 1,500 color images and video tutorials. The kit does not include printed instructions: You can download the digital instructions free of charge by clicking on the links below.

Worth highlighting, the Belem features a highly detailed bow winch, made up of some 30 parts... Fall in love with this beautiful boat! Once completed, the Belem model is 806 mm long, 256 mm wide and 540 mm high.
