Royal Fortune 1/65 Pirate Ship Kit from OCCRE
OCCRE 12015
Discover the model of the pirate ship Royal Fortune, the flagship of Bartholomew Roberts - known as Black Bart - one of the most legendary names in 18th-century piracy. This wooden model from OcCre invites you to build, piece by piece, the ship of the man who captured over 400 ships in just three years and marked the end of the Golden Age of Piracy.
History of the Royal Fortune, Black Bart's ship
In 1719, a Welsh sailor was captured by pirates. He didn't want this life. But when the crew elected him captain, Bartholomew Roberts never looked back. In just three years, he became the most prolific pirate in history, capturing more ships than anyone before or since.
Roberts didn't fit the image of a pirate. While others drank rum until they dropped, he preferred tea. He wore crimson silk, a feathered hat and a gold chain adorned with a diamond cross stolen from the King of Portugal himself. He was feared from Brazil to Newfoundland. He created one of the strictest pirate codes ever known. And he designed his own flag: himself standing, sword in hand, on the heads of his enemies in Barbados and Martinique - marked with the initials ABH and AMH.
The name Royal Fortune did not belong to a single ship. Roberts renamed every ship he took as his flagship. It wasn't just a name - it was a pact. For him, fortune was never an accident. It was something to be conquered.
His end came on February 5, 1722 off Cape Lopez, when a volley of machine-gun fire from HMS Swallow struck him on the first tack. His crew threw his body overboard before the authorities could seize it. Even in death, he refused to let others decide his fate. Many historians believe that the Golden Age of Piracy ended with him.
What's in the kit?
The box contains everything you need to build the Royal Fortune model from A to Z, using top-of-the-range materials and remarkable historical fidelity:
- Step-by-step assembly instructions
- Tutorial videos
- Scale drawings
- Laser-cut plywood planks
- Edging strips in basswood, African walnut and sapele
- Cast metal and photoetched brass parts
- Hand-sewn cotton sails
Three woods, one legendary ship
Each species was chosen for a specific reason. Basswood offers a soft fiber, ideal for carving fine details. African walnut provides the dark tone and solid edge of hull. And sapele, with its reddish veining, adds the character of noble woods. Together, they reproduce the combination of textures and tones that make this model so unique. The photo-etched brass parts precisely replicate the original fittings and guns, while the hand-sewn cotton sails complete a silhouette that makes a statement in any showcase.
The Royal Fortune model and its pirate legend
OcCre's Royal Fortune is much more than a model-building challenge. It's an invitation to relive the story of the man who captured so many ships, and the flagship that made it all possible.
With 3,237 parts and an estimated 460 hours of construction time, this is a project that will stay with you for months. You don't need to be an expert - the difficulty is moderate, and there are step-by-step instructions and tutorial videos. But once completed, you'll have in your hands a 1/65 scale replica of one of the most legendary ships in naval history.
If you're passionate about history, navigation or simply enjoy creating something extraordinary with your own hands, the Royal Fortune is for you. Because fortune was never an accident. For Roberts, it was not. Nor was it for you.
