Bullseye RC Sailboat Kit by Aero-Naut
Aero-Naut 3013/00
Our BULLSEYE is inspired by Herreshoff's BULLSEYE of the same name, and is therefore a semi-model. The construction of the model has been adapted in many respects from the original, in favor of a lighter structure, while retaining the BULLSEYE's good sailing characteristics.
Origin:
Nathanael Greene Herreshoff is one of the greatest and most important yacht builders of the 20th century, who lived in Bristol, Rhode Island, on the American east coast.
He built many successful regatta yachts and notably dominated and left his mark on the America's Cup with his J-class yachts. But this great man also loved small yachts and delighted the American East Coast with a number of one-design classes, some of them very successful.
One of these is the Herreshoff 12 ½ footer, built from 1914 to the present day and still enjoying great popularity.
From this boat, of which the Herreshoff yard built over 300 units, Mr. Herreshoff derived the Bullseye. The Bullseye has the same hull as the Herreshoff 12 ½ footer and also two of the latter's rigging variants. The early boats have horn sails, the more modern ones are fitted with classic sails.
A great advantage of the Bullseye over its ancestor is the wider side deck, larger foredeck and aft deck and enclosed benches.
There is also a variant with a pilothouse.
The Bullseye still enjoys great popularity today, with a very active class association and shipyards still building new boats.
Building of the model:
What makes the original Bullseye, like the scale model, better than its ancestor is its wider side deck and enclosed seat boxes.
This prevents water from entering the cockpit when sailing, and there is less room in the cockpit in the event of overflow.
The result is safer sailing. The good sailing characteristics of the original have been retained in the model.
It sails like the big boys, but it also needs to be actively steered. As on real sailing boats, gusts of wind have to be dampened by slackening the sail sheets or luffing slightly. This guarantees the sailing pleasure and long-term enjoyment of this model, which can be sailed safely up to Beaufort force 3.
What's more, this model is easy on the eye and lets you put your own ideas into practice.
