The Real Ship

The HDMS Absalon (L16) is the first vessel in a class of two multi-mission command and support ships for the Royal Danish Navy, followed by its sister ship, the HDMS Esbern Snare. It is named after the Danish archbishop and politician Absalon.

The Absalon, a support and command vessel, can carry out a wide range of national and international missions, including the transport of personnel and equipment, and serve as a command platform for air, naval, and land operations. The ship also has the capability to lay mines. It can also carry out humanitarian missions as a hospital ship. The ship features a 900m² modular deck that can be used for various operations. For example, in 2008 and 2009, the Absalon participated in patrol and pirate-capture operations off the coast of Somalia.
